There are places that seem to have stopped time — Roubenka U Babi is one of them.
Its oldest walls have stood for more than two centuries. In the 1950s, like many houses near the border, it faced demolition. Fortunately, fate had other plans.
In the 1960s, the family of the current owner brought the house back to life. His grandmother lived here — she cared for her animals, baked, tended the garden, and filled the home with warmth and calm. For her grandson, this was a world of freedom: tree climbing, running through meadows, scraped knees, and the smell of freshly baked cake drifting through summer air.
The cottage carries her spirit to this day — that’s why it bears her name: “U Babi” – At Grandma’s.
In 2015, the owner decided to lovingly restore the old homestead. The timber beams were hand-carved once again, the original colors returned, and behind the traditional façade, comfort for modern guests was quietly added. A wellness area with sauna and whirlpool grew in the old barn, and the cottage itself now houses three cozy apartments and a common room.
Today, Roubenka U Babi is more than a place to stay.
It’s a home of memories, a tribute to perseverance, and a reminder that with care and love, even old houses can bloom again — and become a place where every guest rediscovers the simple joy of countryside life.
